If Bailey is moved, Im prediciting he will grossly outproduce any asset we get in return in that trade on his new team.

I think Grabner should be traded b/c even when he plays well, Capuano hates him. while others love to bash Grabner for not scoring on his breakaways, my response is, name another player that gets as many breakaways as him.
If grabner converted on 60% of breakaway that all isles fans want him to he would be a 50-60 goal scorer. Maybe that why we got him on waiver wire. Did anyone ever think of that. That said, he has more trade value than Bailey right now.

here is something i want to throw out there. Maybe we loaded up on Foward b/c Tavares isnt 100%. wouldnt anyone be suprised if SnowMan suprised us with some info like that right before the season started.

Considering he has, on numerous recent occasions, said that Tavares is 100% healthy and has been skating I am absolutely positive that's not why we signed forwards.

I'll throw this out there: Garth signed a ton of forwards because our secondary scoring rate was an abortion last year.

I think Garth signed the forwards because he can't be in the top 5 of the draft next year...

Yeah and having only 1 line that can put the puck in the net, despite them being exceptionally good at it, isn't going to help.

Now we have scoring depth through 3 lines.

Does that really matter if the trade adds balance to the team and they win more games? Last I checked it was more about that than winning trades.

I was all ready to make a bad pun about "trending upwards into deep holes that needed to be filled"... But I luckily remembered more than one person blogs about the Islanders.

Well now that we have two thirds of a second line it may pay to see how Grabner plays with them. I'm not about to hand Lee a starting job considering he's still learning defense. Colin McDonald hardly proved he was in form last year and the rest of the fourth line from last year can be replaced by the starting forwards on last year's third line including Bailey.

mcdonald, martin and cizikas all underachieved last year. The only one of the three that has upside I see is cizikas.

would be perfectly fine with moving any of these for picks or part of a package for a top 4 defenseman (note, I am not suggesting any or all of these would be enough to get one, but may be useful parts of a package) :

mcdonald
martin
bailey
clutterbuck

do not particularly want to see conacher in the lineup. would accept if grabner was moved although I do not want to see that happen.

on d, we should waive carkner

I assume Boulton, Conacher, and McDonald are going to be the extra forwards.
McDonald will probably be in Bridgeport if I had to guess, with Conacher and Boulton alternating due to demand for an increase of the punches-to-face ratio.

This is, of course, assuming no trades are made.

16 one-way forward contracts as of now. 14 spots on the roster for forwards if you go 7 "D". They have to move two forwards one way or another. Either through trade or waivers. I don't see Garth as the kind of GM that would just waste an asset by placing it on waivers for the sake of getting down to the 23-man roster. Yes, Garth waives guys, but only the utterly useless. Outside of Colin McDonald, I don't think Snow views any of the forwards on this roster as utterly useless, so I think a trade is happening before training camp.

They need a top four, preferably top pair "D" man in order to have a legit shot at the playoffs this season. The current "D" was putrid last year and clearly was not up to the task. I know, the goaltending sucked and the forwards didn't help much, but the "D" was plenty bad on its own. It would be great to add a top four or top pair guy with a trade.

here is why Colin McDonald should be showed the door.

8 Goals in 70 games and a -22 rating. Capuano thinks he is second best foward on team by the amount of ice time he gave him.

this guy has no business in the NHL.

He averaged 12:23/TOI per game. Good for 25th out of 30 Islanders that dressed this year.

If they underachievd last year, what makes you think any team wants them in exchange for a player of value like a second pair d-man or better? Every team has third and fourth line forwards and low pair d-men that usually get swapped for change of scenery etc.

I know... it's just Shanny will want to move him before the season.

Having Phaneuf as captain in Toronto is a nightmare.

If they start off slow... he is like a lightning rod.

The media and fans will eat him up.

Not because he is a bad player... but because of his contract.

He should not be the captain or making 7 million... but a good player.

It just seems like a natural deal... they need centremen.... Isles need "D"
